This was a solid book. Mostly because it was unpredictable and fast-paced. I raced through the last 100 pages and started the sequel right away because I NEED to know where Maas is going.
Feyre is a new-age Belle who winds up on a somewhat harrowing adventure because she shoots an arrow into the wrong bit of prey one day (but hey, she was just trying to feed her family!).
If you enjoy NA Fantasy, then I would recommend this read. The romance was a bit eeeeeuuukkkk for me, but I understand why it needs to be there. That being said, I don’t feel like it took away from the overall story line.
I totally get the Maas-mania, now!
This is a solid sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses, probably better than the first.
I’m happy to be reading this trilogy when it is already out, and not as they came out, because I wouldn’t have been able to wait the year for the next book. I HAVE to know what’s going to happen to my girl, Feyre!
Maas can write. She writes action, adventure, and sex brilliantly. I really couldn’t put the story down. If you like fantasy and new adult, I highly advise this series.

It is about time I finished up this trilogy… although now that book 4 is out… I guess I’m not done. There goes all the happy feelings I had for completion of this behemoth!!
I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, especially book 2. This one just DRAGGED. It took me almost 2 months to read it, and I started to resent the fact that it was seemingly 700 pages of drivel.
Maybe it is just that book 2 is SO good, that I went into this one a bit more expectant.
That being said, the last 100 pages are solid. There is a lot of action and things finally come to a head. Most loose ends are wrapped up. Action scenes are cool.
However, I find the way this book ends to be somewhat unbelievable and I’m not even sure that I understand exactly what happened. So you have the King of Hybern who is this big badass dude, and he is taken down by Elain?? I mean, really? Like, cool. But no.
And we never get into the mating bonds snapping for Nesta and Cassian and Elain and Lucien? We couldn’t get to that in 700 pages?
I’d also like to note that I HATE THE WORD MATE AND IT WAS WAY THE EFF OVERUSED IN THIS BOOK.
Generally, I like the story and I would recommend to others… but I think Maas was too focused on some parts and there was a lot more that could have been wrapped up, or less contrived and explained to the reader. Like the whole Cauldron breaking, then taking the power of the MATES (gawd that word haunts me) to repair, then Amren coming out High Fae.
I hope book 4 is better. At least it is under 300 pages 🙂
